The Big Day Has Arrived

In just a few short hours volunteers will be going to the playground to set up.  We are all very excited to see our new playground tomorrow.  Volunteers have been working now stop the last 2 days preparing the site, and it looks good already.  It is going to be a great day for the communities of Cook's Harbour, Wild Bight, and Boat Harbour.  Join us for a amazing experience.  If you cannot attend you can watch us live on the internet on the national Let Them Be Kids site.  Check us out at www.ltbk.ca .

Major Grants Awarded

In the last week, we have been awarded 2 major grants.  We have received the grant from the Provincial Government in the amount of $15,000.00.  A big thank-you to our MHA Christopher Mitchelmore for all your hard work on our behalf.  
Today, we received word that we were successful in receiving a grant from United Way.  They awarded us $20,000.00.
We are overjoyed with the generous support from everyone.

Sammy Woodward handed in $98.68 today! Over the past several weeks, he collected money for helping family members with tasks around the house. Good job, Sammy!

Playground Work Underway

During the past weeks, work has commenced on the playground.  All the old equipment has been removed and sand has been put in place to resurface the area.  We are into the last month  now, our new playground will be completed on June 22nd.


IGA Grant

The playground committee was successful in getting a grant from the International Grenfell Association.  They generously donated $ 10.000.00 to our playground.

A huge Thank - You to St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. for their donation to our playground.  SABRI: Helping to build the economy of Northern Newfoundland through investment in our resources and our people, beginning with our children and youth.

Grade 2 Student, Allie Woodward was eager to do her part to raise money for the playground.  She collected money from her extended family members in exchange for completing jobs around the house. 

In total, she collected $140.59! Way to go, Allie!

Kids Helping Kids

Our Lady of the Cape School in Cape St. George sent us a donation today! They had a pizza sale at their school for our playground! In the letter a quote..., "We have a Let Them Be Kids Playground in our community and know what a huge effort it is for a small community to raise funds so we decided to help."
Thank You so much for your help.  It shows that children can help, they raised $100.00 for our project.

Fundraising

We would like to thank everyone who helped with our Ham and Turkey Easter Bingo.  It was a huge success.  Just a reminder that our dart tournament will go ahead this Saturday, March 30th, at 9:00pm.  Come out for a night of fun.

Dotmocracy - Pictures Posted!


Our Dotmocracy was held at James Cook Memorial today. Children were given stickers to place on pictures of equipment they'd like to see in their new playground.

DOTMOCRACY DESIGN DAY

Our dotmocracy is set to go ahead on Monday, March 4th. The children of James Cook Memorial will vote on which playground equipment they would like.  The children get to design their own playground.

We would like to thank everyone who made our announcement event such a wonderful success.  Everyone enjoyed the "old fashioned time" which included great food, music, and wonderful entertainment, even the mummers showed up.  And most importantly we got to share our wonderful news of receiving a Helping Hands award from Let Them Be Kids to build a new playground for our children - our future.  It was an enjoyable evening for everyone who attended.
